On the 20th, the '1st Gwangjin Love Kimchi-Making Festival' was held at the Naru Art Center Plaza in Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho).
This event, held for the first time since the establishment of the Gwangjin Welfare Foundation (Chairman Kim Seok-hoe), was organized to support food stability by distributing kimchi to low-income families and to foster a spirit of neighborly love.
Hosted by the Gwangjin Welfare Foundation, sponsored by Kookmin Bank and the Korea Social Security Information Service, and participated in by about 150 volunteers from six organizations including Jayang, Gwangjang, Junggok Comprehensive Social Welfare Centers, Gwangjin Senior Welfare Center, Jeongnip Hall, and the Korea Social Security Information Service, 10 tons of kimchi were prepared.
The event started early in the morning with the preparation of kimchi ingredients, divided into mixing and packaging tasks. Participants carefully mixed 7 tons of salted napa cabbage and 3 tons of seasoning. The prepared kimchi was immediately delivered in 10 kg portions to about 1,000 low-income households in the area.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, "I would like to express my gratitude to the social welfare centers, Jeongnip Hall officials, and volunteers who participated in the Love Kimchi-Making Festival despite the cold weather," adding, "We will continue to spread warm hearts widely to create a city where no neighbors are left out and everyone lives well together."
A district official who participated in the event said, "Many volunteers took part in the first-ever kimchi-making festival this year. Next year, we plan to develop it into a festival involving more welfare facilities, professional organizations, and interested participants to expand the practice of sharing."
