The Criminal Division 1 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Kim Seung-ho) sent prosecutors and investigators to Yongin CC Golf Course and Elysian Gangchon Resort to execute search warrants.
Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Ui-gyeom raised allegations of misconduct against Deputy Chief Prosecutor Lee during the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee audit last month. It was alleged that on December 24, 2020, Deputy Chief Prosecutor Lee was invited to a gathering at Elysian Gangchon Resort with family and acquaintances, which was arranged by the vice chairman of a conglomerate group that Deputy Chief Prosecutor Lee had been investigating.
Lawmaker Kim also claimed that there were suspicions that Deputy Chief Prosecutor Lee, at the request of his brother-in-law who operates the golf course, had accessed criminal records of golf course employees and others on their behalf.
Subsequently, the investigation began after Kim and other Democratic Party judiciary committee members filed a complaint against Deputy Chief Prosecutor Lee with the prosecution.
