The 'Large Corporation-Supplier Win-Win Model' has expanded from the shipbuilding and petrochemical industries to the automotive industry.
On the 20th, the Ministry of Employment and Labor, Hyundai Motor Company, and Kia held a 'Joint Declaration Ceremony for the Expansion of Win-Win Cooperation in the Automotive Industry' at the Hyundai Motor Global Win-Win Cooperation Center, the largest supplier training facility in Korea. Attendees included Lee Jeong-sik, Minister of Employment and Labor; Lee Dong-seok, CEO of Hyundai Motor Company; Choi Jun-young, CEO of Kia; Moon Seong-jun, Chairman of the Hyundai Motor-Kia Suppliers Association; and Lee Geon-guk, CEO of Sambo Auto (an automotive parts supplier), among others.
This joint declaration is the first case of the win-win model to improve the dual structure spreading to the automotive industry following shipbuilding and petrochemicals. Minister Lee stated, "The dual structure problem that blocks a sustainable labor market for future generations and the public can only be narrowed when voluntary cooperation between labor and management to create an ecosystem of coexistence and solidarity is realized and institutionalized. The win-win agreement between large corporations and suppliers based on trust and cooperation is a 'new social dialogue' model where stakeholders such as large corporations and suppliers take the lead in seeking win-win solutions through dialogue and compromise, supported by the government, contributing to resolving the dual structure at the industry level."
Through this joint declaration, Hyundai Motor and Kia agreed to prepare and implement measures for ▲securing skilled personnel for suppliers ▲improving working conditions for supplier employees ▲enhancing suppliers' technological competitiveness ▲strengthening management foundations. Suppliers will work on ▲improving working conditions and capabilities of their employees ▲efforts to improve research and development and productivity, while the government plans to actively support all related matters in response to the voluntary efforts of Hyundai Motor, Kia, and their suppliers.
Furthermore, to ensure that the joint declaration does not remain merely a statement but leads to the discovery of practical win-win agreement tasks needed by suppliers, the 'Hyundai Motor-Kia-Suppliers-Government' will operate a consultative body to discuss measures to improve the dual structure of the automotive industry.
Lee Dong-seok, CEO of Hyundai Motor, said, "While the efforts of Hyundai Motor and Kia employees were important in growing Hyundai Motor and Kia into a global top 3, it was possible because of the suppliers who quietly worked together. We will create a true 'companionship' where workers in the automotive industry can work comfortably in a safe workplace based on stable welfare."
Meanwhile, on the same day, Minister Lee Jeong-sik visited Youngshin Precision, an automotive parts manufacturer, to explore the roles of large corporations and the government in improving the dual structure of the automotive industry and directly listened to difficulties and suggestions from labor and management of the suppliers regarding the dual structure situation.
On the 20th, Lee Jeong-sik, Minister of Employment and Labor, delivered a greeting at the "Joint Declaration Ceremony for the Expansion of Win-Win Cooperation in the Automotive Industry" held at Hyundai Motor Company, Kia, and Hyundai Motor Global Win-Win Cooperation Center.
