Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that on November 17, it held the ‘2024 Hope Ondol Warm Winter Campaign’ proclamation ceremony at the Yeongdeungpo-gu Office Annex Auditorium with residents, socially responsible companies, and organizations.

The Hope Ondol Warm Winter Campaign is a representative winter fundraising project jointly conducted by Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul City, and the Seoul Social Welfare Community Chest. It began as support activities for low-income groups following the IMF financial crisis and has continued to foster a culture of sharing for neighbors in need.

Despite difficult times, last year the district raised a record-high amount of approximately 2,283,420,000 KRW, earning the prestigious Excellent Autonomous District Award from the Seoul Social Welfare Community Chest.

This year as well, the district will carry out the ‘Hope Ondol Warm Winter Campaign’ fundraising from November 15, 2023, to February 14, 2024, to promote a culture of giving together with residents and the local community.

The district aims to raise 2 billion KRW, increasing the previous year’s fundraising target by 100 million KRW. The collected donations and goods will be used to support low-income residents to have a warm and happy winter through living stabilization funds, housing support, medical expenses, and various projects for residents in welfare blind spots.

The proclamation ceremony was attended by about 80 people, including Yeongdeungpo-gu Mayor Choi Ho-kwon, the Secretary-General of the Seoul Social Welfare Community Chest, the Chairman of the Yeongdeungpo-gu Social Welfare Council, and publicity ambassadors from 18 neighborhoods. The ceremony included ▲project launch proclamation ▲appointment of publicity ambassadors from each neighborhood ▲donation ceremony from sponsoring companies ▲congratulatory performance by the district’s boys and girls choir. Especially eye-catching was the ▲Magic Tree performance conveying the message ‘Blooming the Flower of Hope through Sharing.’

Anyone wishing to donate can visit their local neighborhood community center or the Welfare Policy Division to contribute donations or deposit funds into the designated Yeongdeungpo-gu account. To enhance donation convenience, fundraising using QR codes will also be conducted. Scanning the QR codes printed on newsletters, leaflets, and posters issued by the district will connect donors to the Yeongdeungpo-gu exclusive community chest donation page, allowing participation via bank transfer, credit card, and more.

After the fundraising campaign ends, the district will hold a performance report meeting to share the fundraising results and present plaques of appreciation to outstanding donors.

Yeongdeungpo-gu Mayor Choi Ho-kwon stated, “Although these are challenging times due to the economic downturn and soaring prices, I hope we can achieve good results again this year by coming together. I ask for much interest and participation in the fundraising campaign for neighbors struggling to get through the winter.”
