Creating an Atmosphere for Reviving Basic Arts, A Venue for University Arts Festival
Busan City will operate the ‘2023 University Arts Festival Week,’ a diverse series of performances, from November 18 to December 17 at venues including Busan Cultural Center, City Hall Exhibition Hall, and Dong-gu Culture Platform, starting with the symphony orchestra festival of five universities.
This event was planned to promote the exchange of works among university students and to foster an atmosphere for the revival of basic arts. The achievements of various university student support projects supported by Busan City will be showcased intensively at the Busan Cultural Center and other locations.
The university student support projects include the University Dance Festival (Busan Cultural Foundation), Symphony Orchestra Festival (Busan Cultural Center), University Choir Festival and Degree Show (Busan City), and selected works from the ‘University Student Work Production Participation Support Project’ (Busan City).
In particular, this event is significant as it revives the university arts festival, which creates an atmosphere for the revival of basic arts in the region, similar in nature to the university joint festival that was suspended due to the crisis of art college closures and the COVID-19 pandemic.
The main event programs include ▲Symphony Orchestra Festival (five universities) ▲University Choir Festival ▲Degree Show ▲and presentations of works by university student groups (teams) in various genres selected through public contests.
Additionally, some works from the Busan University Dance Festival, which ended last October, will be invited as special performances at the dance work presentation of Busan Women’s University.
Kim Ki-hwan, Director of the Culture and Sports Bureau, stated, “Following K-Culture, the next wave is K-Arts. Our city must establish a solid foundation for basic arts to foster Busan Arts (B-Arts).” He added, “We will continue to strive to create an environment where university students can grow and work as artists.”
