On June 14, Oh Miseop, a member of the Gwangju Metropolitan City Seo-gu Council, participated as a panelist in the 'Gender Mainstreaming Subcommittee Talk Concert' hosted by the Gwangju Gender Forum and announced the current status of gender equality policies in Seo-gu, Gwangju, on the 17th.
Gender mainstreaming refers to the transformation of social systems in which women participate in the mainstream areas of society and acquire decision-making power.
This talk concert was a relay concert conducted by six subcommittees of the Gwangju Gender Forum to develop gender equality policies and discover agendas. It was held to share the status of gender mainstreaming policy implementation in five autonomous districts and to prepare development plans.
Councilor Oh presented the operation status of Seo-gu's gender equality policies divided into the following areas: ▲ spreading awareness of gender equality and strengthening policy foundations ▲ creating a gender-equal job environment ▲ fostering a family-friendly local environment ▲ responding to violence against women and creating a safe environment ▲ and the current status of women's representation.
Following this, there was a sharing session on the status of gender mainstreaming policy implementation by each autonomous district. Discussions also continued on the difficulties of unified gender mainstreaming policy implementation, as gender impact assessments and gender-responsive budgeting are executed by different departments.
Finally, Councilor Oh stated, "I will carefully examine gender impact assessments and gender-responsive budgeting and make efforts to enhance gender sensitivity for gender mainstreaming and increase women's representation."
