Hanil Vacuum is set to improve its performance, strengthen new growth engines, and enhance shareholder value through a merger with Nuon, a company specializing in the development of new health functional food materials for body fat reduction, known for the Cissus Diet.
Hanil Vacuum announced on the 17th that it decided to merge with Nuon through a board meeting held on the 16th. The merger is expected to be finalized in March after approval at an extraordinary general meeting of shareholders scheduled for January next year.
The Cissus extract used in the Cissus Diet, popularized by actor Kim Soo-hyun's diet, is a new body fat reduction material directly researched and developed by Nuon. It is an ingredient individually recognized by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS), and Nuon exclusively supplies this ingredient.
The Cissus Diet has been proven through human application trials by the MFDS to reduce body fat by 12.8% and body weight by 8%. From 2019 to January 2023, it has been sold at an average rate of one pack every 4 seconds based on the number of packs sold. More than 40 million packs have been sold cumulatively, making it the highest-selling product using a single ingredient for body fat reduction.
Hanil Vacuum has experienced four consecutive years of sales decline and operating losses due to sluggishness in its core vacuum deposition equipment business.
Meanwhile, Hanil Vacuum plans to appoint Lee Jong-jin, former head of the healthcare division at Dongkook Pharmaceutical, as its first CEO. Lee, who is expected to be appointed through the extraordinary general meeting, was the key figure who grew Dongkook Pharmaceutical’s healthcare division from 15 billion KRW in sales in 2014 to 200 billion KRW in eight years.
