World's Youngest Leader Chile's Gabriel Boric
Confesses Breakup with Feminist Partner on SNS
Gabriel Boric (37), the President of Chile, announced that he has broken up with Irina Karamanos (34), his partner of over four years. As the youngest national leader in the world, he disclosed this information directly through social networking services (SNS).
On the 16th (local time), President Boric stated on his Instagram, "A few weeks ago, Irina and I confirmed that we have different visions for the future. Accordingly, we have decided to go our separate ways."
He added, "It would have been better to keep this private, but we both agreed that it is better to share the story ourselves."
President Boric praised his former partner Irina as "an extraordinary, generous, intelligent, and sharp woman." He continued, "There is nothing to blame Irina for. I have infinite respect for her."
He also emphasized, "To those who wish misfortune upon others, I want to say that we are fine, neither of us has another partner, and everything has been discussed for a long time." He stressed, "I will focus on my duties to ensure there is no disruption in the governance of the country."
Earlier, Chilean daily newspapers reported that the two had been living together for over four years. When Irina was absent from recent events, various speculations arose questioning the relationship between President Boric and her, prompting the president to address the matter personally.
Meanwhile, Irina is a feminist activist and sociologist. After President Boric's inauguration in March last year, she gained attention by leading reforms on the 'First Lady duties.' She raised her voice, saying, "Personal life should not be ruined because of a spouse's job."
In December last year, Irina relinquished the position of Social and Cultural Coordinator of the Presidential Office, which was traditionally given ex officio to the president's spouse. She even requested the dissolution of this organization, transferring all responsibilities related to foundations for women, children, and families to relevant government ministries.
This decision drew criticism from opposition parties but also attracted attention from various foreign media outlets.
However, local foreign media reported that Irina had exerted some influence, including involvement in recommending certain ministers.
