Gwangyang-eup Sports Town, Jungma Area Focused on Community Sports
On the 15th, Gwangyang City in Jeonnam held the final report meeting for the "Comprehensive Plan for Sports Development in Gwangyang City" research project at Seonghwang Multipurpose Gymnasium, attended by Lim Chae-gi, Director of the Tourism, Culture, and Environment Bureau, heads of related departments, the president of the Sports Council, the executive vice president of the Disabled Sports Council, and other sports organization executives and staff.
This final report meeting presented development strategies for each sports sector (professional, recreational, school, etc.) reflecting the proposals and supplementary items suggested at the mid-term report meeting held in August, as well as specialized strategies for sports facilities by region considering the characteristics of Gwangyang City.
In particular, the development strategies by sports sector proposed integrated sports programs that promote participation from early childhood to old age, including integrated sports activities where people with disabilities and non-disabled individuals can participate together. In the area of sports facility expansion, the plan suggested transforming the western region (Gwangyang-eup area) into a sports town and revitalizing citizen recreational sports in the eastern region (Jungma area).
The city plans to reflect and supplement the additional proposals and discussion points raised at the report meeting to establish a comprehensive plan by the end of December for the mid- to long-term sports development of Gwangyang City, including the expansion of sports facilities that allow all citizens in both the eastern and western regions to enjoy sports.
Lim Chae-gi, Director of the Tourism, Culture, and Environment Bureau, stated, "I hope you will make efforts to establish the comprehensive sports development plan that reflects the agenda and supplementary items presented at the final report meeting, to indicate the future direction for sports facility expansion and create better conditions for citizens' sports activities."
