Former Democratic Party leader Song Young-gil announced his intention to establish a 'proportional representation new party,' increasing the likelihood of a 'Jo-Chu-Song (Jo Guk, Chu Mi-ae, Song Young-gil) proportional representation new party.' Meanwhile, Ha Tae-kyung, a member of the People Power Party, predicted that instead of 'Jo-Chu-Song,' a 'Chu-Jo-Song' proportional representation new party will emerge. He also viewed the possibility of former leader Lee Jun-seok remaining in the party while pushing for the 'new party' as high.
On the 16th, Ha said on KBS's 'Special 1 Radio Today,' "The first proportional representation candidate is usually a woman. So, former Minister Chu Mi-ae would be number one on the proportional list, former Minister Jo Guk would be number two, and former leader Song would be number three or four on the list," he said.
When asked by the host whether the birth of such a 'Chu-Jo-Song' proportional representation new party would be good for the People Power Party, he expressed concern, saying, "However, if this kind of political old practice continues to strengthen, political innovation within our conservative camp will not proceed well. Even if we do not innovate much, we can still win. This strengthens overall political distrust and sets back the development of South Korean politics."
He pointed out that the emergence of a 'Chu-Jo-Song' proportional representation new party would have a negative impact on politics overall. He said, "Only the public's political distrust will intensify, which will also increase distrust in the government, and thus it will not help the country function properly."
When asked about former leader Lee Jun-seok's possibility of founding a new party, running as an independent, or returning to the party, he said, "I am currently helping former leader Lee both behind the scenes and publicly so that he can play a role in the party, and I believe the possibility of him staying in our party is much higher. (My remarks) are always strong, but if he leaves, that is a different matter. If the conservatives split, our party will suffer a great blow, but Lee Jun-seok's new party will also suffer a very big blow. So this would be mutual destruction."
He also said that if the 'Lee Jun-seok new party' is formed, the one who would suffer the most damage would be President Yoon Seok-youl. He said, "If the 'Lee Jun-seok new party' is formed, both sides will be damaged, but former leader Lee will suffer damage that can be recovered from, while President Yoon will suffer irreparable damage. If President Yoon does not secure a majority in the general election, the remainder of his term will be meaningless. However, former leader Lee is young and can recover anytime."
