Busan City will hold the ‘2023 Yeongho and Nam Traditional Market Expo’ for three days from November 17 to 19 at the outdoor theater of the Busan Cinema Center.

This expo, following last year, is an event where the merchants' associations of Busan and Jeonnam unite to introduce and exchange various excellent traditional market products from each region. It is designed to expand product distribution channels and help revitalize traditional markets in each area.

At this event, representative traditional markets from Busan such as Busanjin Market and Jeongiinneun Gupo Market, as well as representative markets from Jeonnam such as Gulbigol Yeonggwang Market and Goheung Traditional Market, will participate, operating 101 booths where visitors can directly see and purchase excellent local specialties from each traditional market.

Additionally, various promotional booths such as Yeonje Obang Commercial District Promotion Center, cultural tourism-type market promotion centers including Busanjin Market, Millak Alley Market, Sinpyeong Alley Market, Zero Pay Promotion Center, and Merchant Information Network Promotion Center will be set up. Side events like the ‘Jeonnam Market Traveling Troupe Performance,’ ‘Merchant Singing Contest,’ and ‘Household Management Quiz’ will also be held, providing families, friends, and acquaintances with a rich and enjoyable experience full of attractions.

Notably, this year’s event features a ‘Traditional Market Children’s Drawing Contest’ on the second day and a ‘Love Kimchi Making’ event on the last day, drawing attention.

The Traditional Market Children’s Drawing Contest will be held on November 18 at 11 a.m. for elementary school students, with on-site registration and participation available.

The ‘Love Kimchi Making’ event will take place on November 19, and the kimchi made that day will be delivered to single-person households and marginalized groups.

The expo opening ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. on the 17th, with about ten guests including Lee Seong-gwon, Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs, attending to give congratulatory speeches, cut the ribbon, and tour the event venue.

At the opening ceremony, market commendations will also be awarded to Busan traditional market merchants who have contributed to the revitalization of traditional markets, expressing gratitude for their efforts and boosting morale.

Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs Lee Seong-gwon said, “As this Yeongho and Nam Traditional Market Expo is a festival that citizens and tourists visiting Busan can enjoy, we expect visitors to develop a more familiar image of the traditional markets of Busan and Jeonnam.” He added, “Our city will continue to promote various support policies to create Busan traditional markets that people want to visit often.”
