This year, the average cash donation per person decreased for the first time since related statistics began to be compiled, as high-value donations relatively declined.

According to the Statistics Korea 'Social Survey' results on the 16th, the average cash donation per donor over the past year as of May this year was 589,800 KRW, down 13,200 KRW (2.2%) from 603,000 KRW in 2021. This is the first time the average cash donation per person has decreased since the statistics have been compiled biennially since 2011.

Although the average donation per donor decreased, the total donation amount increased. This appears to be a phenomenon caused by a relative decrease in high-value donations and an increase in small donations.

In fact, higher-income households with larger average donations showed a greater decrease in cash donations. The average cash donation per person in households earning over 6 million KRW was 749,200 KRW, down 147,700 KRW (16.5%) from 896,900 KRW in 2021.

Cash donations for households earning between 5 million and 6 million KRW and those earning between 4 million and 5 million KRW also decreased by 42,500 KRW (6.9%) and 41,800 KRW (7.1%) respectively during the same period, totaling 571,600 KRW and 545,600 KRW. These households also saw a decrease in average donations per person aged 13, indicating a reduction in total donation amounts.

On the other hand, the average cash donations for households earning between 1 million and 2 million KRW and those earning between 2 million and 3 million KRW increased by 16,200 KRW (4.5%) and 31,000 KRW (7.3%) respectively, reaching 377,200 KRW and 456,500 KRW during the same period.

Notably, households earning between 3 million and 4 million KRW saw the largest increase in cash donations, rising by 101,000 KRW (22.7%) to 546,500 KRW during the same period compared to other households.
