Haesung Optics "GeoSoft, World's First International Certification for Electric Propulsion Ship Gateway"

GeoSoft, a subsidiary of Haesung Optics, announced on the 16th that it has become the first in the world to obtain international certification from the National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) for gateways used in electric propulsion vessels, in collaboration with Ibex.

The gateway developed by GeoSoft is a device that combines the Power and Energy Management System (PEMS), a core technology of the marine mobility industry, with the Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) system. It enables integrated energy management analysis, and this is the first time worldwide that international certification has been obtained for electric propulsion vessels.

The National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) is an international standardization organization for marine electronics and navigation equipment worldwide, establishing international standards such as NMEA 0183/2000/OneNet for ship equipment. It is responsible for issuing certificates through standard testing. NMEA certification is essential for commercializing products installed on vessels.

Through international certification, GeoSoft has secured a foothold for building a global marine mobility ecosystem as well as for future international standards and market leadership. By resolving the complexities of testing and certification systems for small and medium-sized electric propulsion vessels, it is expected to contribute to the development of the domestic small and medium-sized electric propulsion vessel industry and the global market expansion of related companies.

Choi Jun-gyu, Vice President of GeoSoft, stated, “The distribution of small and medium-sized electric propulsion vessels is expected to expand significantly in line with the enforcement of greenhouse gas reduction and the development of the future mobility industry,” adding, “To lead in the related market, technologies and services for efficient energy use and management are essential.”

He continued, “Through international certification, integrated energy management, analysis, and services based on the latest international standards are now possible with domestic small and medium-sized enterprise technology,” and added, “Based on this, we plan to leap forward as a global shipbuilding and marine mobility specialized company not only domestically but also worldwide.”

Meanwhile, on October 22, GeoSoft signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in Orlando, USA, with the National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA), the Korea Ship Navigation Convergence Association, Ibex, and others, regarding cooperation in research and development of standards for small and medium-sized electric propulsion systems, related system development, and personnel exchange.
