Gyeonggi Province has created the ‘Gyeonggi Province Safe Station (4S Station)’ guidelines to build subway stations where all users can feel safe, and will apply them to all subway construction sites.
The Gyeonggi Province Safe Station (4S Station) stands for ▲Safe ▲Self awareness ▲Stable ▲Subway, representing stations that users can safely and confidently use at any time.
The Safe Station guidelines prepared by Gyeonggi Province will be applied to all subways, from the currently under-construction Byeollae Line to future planned lines. To ensure a Safe subway station, the guidelines include installing closed-circuit (CCTV) cameras without blind spots, adding emergency bells, and fire prevention facilities.
Self awareness focuses on making it easy for all users to recognize that the entire station is being monitored by installing convex mirrors and monitors broadcasting the entire station.
To provide users with a sense of stability (Stable), the guidelines call for establishing specialized safe station zones and designing the station lighting (color temperature) to create a warm atmosphere.
In particular, to enable residents who feel danger to respond immediately to various crimes and fires, specialized safe station zones have been installed on platforms. These zones are equipped with CCTV, monitors broadcasting both the specialized zone and the entire station, emergency phones, and emergency bells.
Additionally, safety and various informational signs such as CCTV recording notices, station office location guides, and SOS indicators will be installed to ensure that the entire subway feels safe.
For new lines scheduled to open after the soon-to-be-opened Byeollae Line, Gyeonggi Province plans to introduce intelligent (AI) CCTV to respond quickly to various situations.
Go Bung-ro, Director of the Gyeonggi Province Railway Construction Division, explained, "Through the establishment of these guidelines, we plan to build stations where residents can use the subway with peace of mind, not only improving transportation convenience but also proactively responding to various crimes and social disasters to create a safer subway."
