Dobong-gu Mayor Oh Eon-seok Brightens Dark Streets... Night Patrol with Residents

Oh Eon-seok, the mayor of Dobong-gu, will conduct joint night patrols focusing on areas of concern for residents' safety during the year-end and New Year period, which is filled with various events and year-end gatherings, together with local residents.

This initiative aims to prevent various incidents and accidents that are likely to occur in the easily relaxed year-end atmosphere, especially focusing on protecting vulnerable groups such as women, children, and the elderly.

Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) announced that it will carry out joint night patrols until the end of the year, focusing on safety-vulnerable areas in 14 neighborhoods across 6 zones.

The main patrol areas include small parks and night walking paths, multi-use facilities with heavy foot traffic, densely populated residential areas, and traditional markets. Regarding the selection of these zones, Mayor Oh said, “We have been able to understand the safety concerns within the area well through frequent joint night patrols with the local autonomous crime prevention teams. The selection was made after gathering residents’ opinions at that time.”

The patrols will be conducted together with local residents, neighborhood chiefs, and Mayor Oh. They will identify and remove safety threats to residents that are difficult to detect during the day, and will focus on inspecting the operation and installation status of alley security lights and street facilities.

Along with the patrols, Mayor Oh plans to actively communicate with residents he meets on site. He stated, “You cannot understand without being on site. We will actively reflect the diverse opinions of residents encountered in the field into the district administration.”

In fact, during the first joint night patrol on the 14th in Ssangmun 1-dong and Ssangmun 4-dong (Ui-Ssangmun zone), Mayor Oh personally cleaned up illegally dumped trash in an alleyway, which residents pointed out was turning the area into a high-crime zone, and conveyed their concerns to the relevant department, instructing them to provide feedback on the handling of the complaint.

Oh Eon-seok, mayor of Dobong-gu, said, “The goal of this joint night patrol is to ‘protect the peaceful daily lives’ of Dobong-gu residents. Just as soldiers fulfilling their national defense duties silently protect the safety of the people, Dobong-gu will continue to carry out various activities to safeguard the peaceful daily lives of its residents.”
