Jinju-si Selected for 'Senior Job Market-Type Infrastructure Construction Project' Competition

Jinju City in Gyeongnam announced on the 16th that it has secured 220 million KRW in national funding after being selected for the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s “Support Project for Infrastructure Establishment of Senior Job Market-Type Business Groups.”

This public contest supports the infrastructure establishment of market-type business groups where seniors jointly operate small-scale stores to create jobs.

The Ministry of Health and Welfare conducted the contest targeting local governments nationwide and selected five outstanding projects?Geumcheon-gu, Seoul; Songpa-gu, Seoul; Jinju City, Gyeongnam; Yeongam-gun, Jeonnam; and Iksan City, Jeonbuk?through a first-round document review and a final presentation evaluation.

Jinju City proposed facility support for operating a silver restaurant and a coin laundry. The silver restaurant manufactures and sells side dishes, lunch boxes, and set meals at affordable prices for senior households within elderly welfare housing, while the coin laundry business collects and washes clothing and bedding. The infrastructure is planned to be established within this year, and starting next year, the Jinju Western Senior Club will operate the facilities.

The city expects this project to have a dual effect by expanding seniors’ opportunities for social participation through the creation of quality jobs and realizing warm companionship with the local community through the operation of daily life support projects for senior households.

Meanwhile, Jinju City was selected for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s “Jinju Pyeonggeo Elderly Welfare Housing” contest and plans to invest a total project cost of 20.3 billion KRW to build 140 rental housing units in the area of 359 Pyeonggeo-dong, with move-in scheduled for February next year.
