Gangdong-gu Forms Partnership with Samcheok-si, Bringing Hearts Closer to Samcheok

Gangdong-gu (District Mayor Lee Su-hee) announced on the 13th that it has signed a 'sister city' agreement with Samcheok City, Gangwon Province.

The signing ceremony took place at Samcheok City Hall with the attendance of Lee Su-hee, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, Park Sang-soo, Mayor of Samcheok, and about 20 officials from both cities. The ceremony was held amid great expectations and enthusiasm from the residents of both cities, followed by a tour of major tourist and cultural facilities in Samcheok City in the afternoon.

The initial spark for exchanges between the two cities began last October when Gangdong-gu first visited Samcheok City. Since then, active exchanges have continued over the past year, including the exchange of letters of intent and visits to festivals. Through in-depth discussions among working-level officials, they agreed to seek and promote development plans for mutual cooperation in various fields such as administration, culture, tourism, and economy.

In particular, given the recent attention Samcheok City has received as a cultural and tourist city, it was agreed to provide benefits such as fee reductions when residents use the various facilities owned by the two cities.

At the signing ceremony, Park Sang-soo, Mayor of Samcheok City, stated, “As partners moving forward, I hope this will be an opportunity to lay the foundation for mutually sustainable development by maximizing the use of resources in both regions and to achieve win-win growth.”

In response, Lee Su-hee, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, replied, “I hope that Gangdong-gu and Samcheok City will have more active exchanges starting from this agreement and that a long-lasting good relationship will be built.”
