Strongly Requests Withdrawal of Suspension of Baekam Hanwha Resort Operations

Uljin-gun, Gyeongbuk, visited the headquarters of Hanwha Hotels & Resorts located in the 63 Building, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, on the 13th.

This visit was to propose continuous operation plans and convey local public opinion regarding Hanwha Resort Baekam Oncheon’s policy to cease operations as of December 31 this year.

In particular, banners condemning Hanwha Resort’s decision to stop operations have been posted in various locations, especially around Onjeong-myeon and Hupo-myeon.

Residents are concerned about the severe impact on the local tourism industry, which can be considered the only alternative, amid the accelerating crisis of regional extinction due to population decline.

Based on Hanwha’s spirit of ‘Trust and Loyalty,’ Hanwha Resort Baekam Oncheon, which has been with the region for over 35 years, is earnestly hoped to remain a partner to prevent regional extinction, and the community awaits Hanwha’s mutually beneficial decision.

County Governor Son Byeong-bok met with Kim Hyeong-jo, CEO of Hanwha Hotels & Resorts, to convey the residents’ boiling public sentiment and expressed regret over the unilateral decision to cease operations without prior communication.

He also strongly requested that Hanwha seek a win-win plan with Hanwha Resort Baekam Oncheon in the future, saying, “In the face of the crisis of regional extinction, which has become a key issue of the era, we hope Hanwha will once again demonstrate the social responsibility it has shown so far.”
