'29 Years Aged' LG Legendary Soju and Rolex Finally Unsealed

A Toast Sealed for 29 Years
Directly Delivered by the Late Chairman Gu Bon-mu

LG Twins won the professional baseball Korean Series (KS) on the 13th. It was a victory after a long 29 years. The LG family, which has supported the team both materially and spiritually, can finally unseal the victory liquor and the luxury Rolex wristwatch.

The LG family's love for baseball is already well-known inside and outside the business community. Back when LG was Lucky-GoldStar, in 1990, they acquired the inaugural professional baseball team 'MBC Cheongryong' and established the LG Twins.

LG captain Oh Ji-hwan, who was selected as the Most Valuable Player this time, will receive the watch.

The late Koo Bon-moo, the former chairman of LG, served as the first owner of the LG Twins, and at that time, he spared no effort in providing full support and attention. He incorporated autonomous management into the team's operations, advocating for "clean baseball, winning baseball."

Thanks to his efforts, LG lifted the championship trophy twice in the Korean Series, in the inaugural year 1990 and again in 1994. Thereafter, Chairman Koo personally visited the stadium every year to encourage the players and even visited the training camp held in Okinawa, Japan, to boost the team. It is said that he even memorized the names and alma maters of the second-team players within the club.

Meanwhile, the Awamori soju that Chairman Koo purchased after the Okinawa camp and the Rolex watch worth about 80 million won bought during an overseas business trip in 1998 have almost become legendary stories.

Chairman Koo said about the soju, "Let's toast with this soju when we win," and regarding the Rolex watch, he said, "Give it to the MVP player after winning," and kept it in the team's safe. However, neither the soju nor the watch saw the light of day during Chairman Koo's lifetime.

Especially regarding the soju, which has been aged for nearly 29 years, LG fans joked that "so much time has passed that the liquor must have all evaporated."

Even when LG Twins' victory seemed like a thing of the distant past, the LG family never gave up their love for baseball. Koo Bon-neung, the younger brother of the late chairman and the biological father of current LG chairman Koo Kwang-mo, served as the president of the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) for six years and four months starting in 2011.

Koo Bon-joon, chairman of LX Group, took over as the second owner of the LG Twins before the affiliate split, succeeding the late chairman, and he is also known for his great love of baseball, reportedly personally observing the LG Twins' spring training.

The LG family's love for the team has continued to the third owner, current LG chairman Koo Kwang-mo. On the 13th, when LG Twins achieved the combined regular season and Korean Series championship for the first time in 29 years, he wore a glossy jumper and visited Jamsil Stadium to share the emotional moment with the team.

Meanwhile, public interest is also focused on whether LG affiliates will hold victory celebration events following the LG Twins' championship. Major affiliates such as LG Electronics and LG Household & Health Care are reportedly preparing various promotional events.

Previously, LG Electronics and LG Electronics' online mall held an event where customers who purchased recommended products were awarded membership points if LG Twins won the championship.
