Volunteering at Farms Facing Labor Shortages

Gyeongnam Nonghyup and the Gyeongnam Branch of the Hometown Housewives Association announced on the 13th that they visited apple farms in Seongsan-myeon, Changnyeong-gun, Gyeongnam, to provide lunch support and help with apple harvesting.

The event was part of a project by the Happiness Sharing Volunteer Group of the Gyeongnam Branch of the Hometown Housewives Association, which supports lunch meals for vulnerable farms struggling with meal preparation during the farming season or for volunteers helping with farm work (Isim Jeomsim 以心點心 Lunch Support Project).

Lunch was provided to about 80 people, including volunteers who came to help with apple harvesting during the busy season and nearby farmers with special circumstances.

The Happiness Sharing Volunteer Group of the Hometown Housewives Association carries out various volunteer activities in the community, including lunch support during the farming season, helping with farm work, and disaster recovery support.

In the first half of this year, they have conducted various volunteer activities such as laundry service, beauty and hairdressing services in island villages, and sharing side dishes.

Kim Ju-yang, head of the Gyeongnam Nonghyup headquarters, said, “Although the full-scale farming season has begun, rural areas are facing a severe shortage of labor due to population decline and aging. We are grateful to the members of the Hometown Housewives Association who quietly volunteer with a humble attitude.”

Kim Pil-woon, president of the Gyeongnam Branch of the Hometown Housewives Association, said, “We find it meaningful to provide practical help to farmers who have difficulty preparing lunch during the busy farming season,” and added, “The Gyeongnam Branch of the Hometown Housewives Association will continue to actively carry out volunteer activities for farmers and the local community.”
