SK Telecom announced on the 13th that it received the Minister of Science and ICT Award at the 24th Radio and Broadcasting Technology Awards in recognition of its achievement in developing and commercializing the AI-based location analysis platform ‘LITMUS’.
The Radio and Broadcasting Technology Awards are presented by the Ministry of Science and ICT to outstanding technologies developed by domestic companies in the telecommunications and broadcasting sectors over the past year.
SKT was recognized for solving urban, transportation, and environmental issues through technology in collaboration with local governments such as Seoul, Gyeonggi, Busan, and Incheon via LITMUS, as well as for enhancing accessibility to analyzed data through an open API.
LITMUS is a technology that uses AI to analyze base station location data and provides location-intelligent data such as movement purposes and means of transportation.
SKT has been continuously applying new AI-based technologies to LITMUS, including ▲AI indoor and outdoor floating population technology ▲carbon emission analysis technology ▲real-time traffic volume and signal optimization technology, and is also conducting research and development (R&D) to enhance the service’s usability by combining LITMUS analysis data with heterogeneous data such as finance and public sectors and by advancing AI models.
Going forward, SKT plans to expand the service scope from existing vehicle-centered location analysis services to various means of transportation such as pedestrians and UAM by leveraging the characteristics of telecommunications data. Additionally, through the advancement of LITMUS AI technology, SKT aims to continuously contribute to solving social issues such as population crises, regional revitalization, climate change, and consideration for socially vulnerable groups.
Previously, SKT’s LITMUS technology was recognized for its AI-based location analysis capabilities by winning the ‘Best Mobile Innovation for Cities’ category at the ‘GSMA Global Mobile Awards 2023.’
Meanwhile, SKT will participate in the ‘2023 Korea Government Expo’ held at BEXCO, Busan, from November 23 to 25, showcasing the LITMUS service under the theme ‘Innovation as an AI Company.’
Ryu Tak-gi, Head of SKT Infrastructure Technology, said, “Winning the Radio and Broadcasting Technology Award is a great achievement that externally recognizes the network and AI technological capabilities SKT has built so far,” adding, “We will continue our R&D efforts to find ways to contribute to society through SKT’s AI location analysis technology.”
