International Standardization Group for IoT and Digital Twin
Attended the 14th General Assembly... Approved 3 Standardization Tasks
The National Radio Research Agency hosted the 14th plenary meeting of the Internet of Things and Digital Twin International Standardization Group (JTC 1/SC 41) from the 6th to the 10th at EL Tower in Seoul.
Since the establishment of SC 41 in 2016, South Korea has served as the international secretariat, leading the international standardization of the Internet of Things (IoT) and digital twins. At this meeting, South Korea proposed three standardization projects, all of which were newly approved.
The newly approved standardization projects are ▲Multimedia Underwater Communication Standard ▲Technical Report on Digital Twin Twinning Conformance Measurement ▲Technical Report on Home Healthcare IoT Applications.
The multimedia underwater communication technology supplements the existing acoustic underwater communication by combining various technologies to provide solutions tailored to specific purposes and situations. Through this international standardization, governance of next-generation underwater communication technology is expected to be secured.
The technical report on digital twin twinning conformance measurement presents criteria and methods for measuring the conformance between the virtual world implemented by digital twin systems and the real world, which will be used to compare quality levels among various digital twin systems.
The technical report on home healthcare IoT applications proposes methods for controlling home healthcare devices and implementing integrated health management services through IoT. It is expected to contribute to securing South Korea’s technological leadership in the global home healthcare market.
The National Radio Research Agency operated a special workshop session during this plenary meeting to promote South Korea’s excellent application cases of IoT and digital twin technologies and to provide a forum for discussing strategies for advancing international standardization.
Seo Seong-il, Director of the National Radio Research Agency, stated, "We have solidified South Korea’s position on the international stage of IoT and digital twin standardization and laid the groundwork for expanding domestic industry participation." He added, "We will continue to support South Korean experts’ international standardization activities as a leading country in ICT standards."
