Kim Park, chairman of Altwell Tech, gifted padded jackets to UN Korean War veterans and their descendants who visited Korea to commemorate the UN Veterans International Memorial Day.
On the 11th, Park Min-sik, Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, announced this on Facebook, saying, "Here is some warm news on a cold day." Minister Park also shared photos of the veterans happily wearing the padded jackets.
Minister Park said, "I received a text message yesterday from Chairman Kim Park, who wanted to provide padded jackets to the 76 UN Korean War veterans and their descendants visiting our country to prevent them from catching colds in this cold weather, and I immediately connected them."
In the photo of the text message posted by Minister Park, Chairman Kim wrote, “It seems the veterans have come to Korea, but since they are elderly, I am worried they might catch a cold due to the sudden cold weather. It would be good to prepare padded jackets for them. I will cover the costs.”
Minister Park emphasized, "Let's give a big round of applause to Chairman Kim Park," and added, "We will never forget the reality of the veterans who rushed to help a country whose name they did not even know 73 years ago."
Kim, the founder of Altwell, established and operated the Altwell Mincho Scholarship Foundation, which is responsible for scholarship projects. Founded in 2000, the foundation selects over 100 scholarship recipients annually and provides scholarships. As of last year, the cumulative number of scholarship recipients reached 763, with total scholarships amounting to 20,493,188,830 KRW. In recognition of this contribution, he received the Mugunghwa Medal at the '2023 Local Era Expo and Local Autonomy & Balanced Development Day Ceremony' held on the 2nd at the Daejeon Convention Center in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon.
In July, Kim also participated in the creation of the statues of Presidents Rhee Syngman and Truman, installed at the Dabudong Battle Memorial Hall in Chilgok, Gyeongbuk. In 2016, he formed the 'Rhee Syngman, Truman, Park Chung-hee Statue Construction Promotion Group' and personally paid 1.5 billion KRW for the statue construction costs.
