‘Road Damage Data Management Program Development’ … Busan City Wins Grand Prize at Digital Local Government Best Practices Competition

'Self-Developed and Distributed Road Damage Data Management Program' Awarded by Ministry of the Interior and Safety

Busan City Construction Safety Testing Office received the grand prize on the 2nd at the '2023 Digital Local Government Best Practice Competition' hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety for the case of 'Self-development and distribution of road damage data management program.'

Held at the Daejeon Convention Center, this competition was organized for the first time this year by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to discover and spread excellent cases of public service improvement using digital technology to all local governments.

In September, after a preliminary review of cases submitted from local governments nationwide, a total of five local governments, including Busan City, advanced to the finals. On the 2nd, through the final presentation, Busan City achieved the great success of being selected as the grand prize winner.

In the preliminary review, based on four criteria: necessity, expertise, originality, and effectiveness, a total of five local governments advanced to the finals: ▲Busan City ▲Seocho-gu, Seoul ▲Gyeonggi Province ▲Nonsan City, Chungnam ▲Iksan City, Jeonbuk.

The city developed an automated work program that integrates road damage-related data (records, GPS coordinates, maps, photos, weather, etc.) and visualizes it at a glance. This program was distributed nationwide through a work program repository for public officials so that anyone could use it, earning recognition for its achievements.

Through this program, road management officials can easily grasp information related to road damage, which serves as basic data for data-driven administration and also ensures continuity of work in personnel rotation such as staffing.

Choi Chae-il, head of the Construction Safety Testing Office, said, “I am pleased that the voluntary efforts of the responsible public officials have led to good results,” and added, “We will continue to strive to provide good road services to citizens by utilizing digital technology.”
