Emphasizing Once Again the Importance of Early Establishment of the Space Aviation Agency
Jo Gyu-il, mayor of Jinju City in Gyeongnam Province, held a solo protest in front of the National Assembly to urge the prompt passage of the "Special Act on the Establishment and Operation of the Space Aviation Agency."
On the 9th, Mayor Jo held a placard with the phrase "Urgent passage of the Space Aviation Agency Special Act, establishment of space environment testing facilities, creation of the Gyeongnam Aviation National Complex, and fostering of the future aviation (AAV) industry require the early establishment of the Space Aviation Agency" and staged a one-person protest.
This solo protest was conducted as part of efforts to once again emphasize the importance of the early establishment of the Space Aviation Agency and to pass the special act within the regular National Assembly session in November.

Mayor Jo, who participated in the protest, stated, “Major countries around the world are actively promoting space development policies centered on dedicated space agencies. South Korea must not fall behind any longer,” and appealed, “We must promptly pass the Space Aviation Agency Special Act to open the first door for South Korea to become one of the world’s top seven space powers as soon as possible.”
He continued, “Gyeongnam, including Jinju City, accounts for 43% of production in the space sector and 70% in the aviation sector, with more than 60% of related companies and workers concentrated here, making it the largest hub of South Korea’s space aviation industry,” emphasizing, “With public institutions such as KTL and the Korea Ceramic Technology Institute, as well as educational institutions like Gyeongsang National University densely located here, the early establishment of the Space Aviation Agency would serve as an opportunity to elevate the space aviation sector to the next level in collaboration with these well-established public institutions, companies, and educational institutions.”
Mayor Jo urged the prompt passage of the special act, stating, “Our Jinju City is pushing forward with the designation of a satellite-specialized district within the space industry cluster, the construction of space environment testing facilities, the development of microsatellites, the creation of the Gyeongnam Aviation National Complex, and the fostering of the AAM industry, making the establishment of the Space Aviation Agency more urgent here than in any other local government.”
