112 Billion Won Basic Fund and 9 Billion Won Metropolitan Fund in 2024
Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Lee Sang-cheol) secured 20.2 billion KRW, the largest amount in Jeonnam region, on the 9th as the 2024 Local Extinction Response Fund.
This fund was established to overcome the crisis of population decline and local extinction. Gokseong-gun secured 11.2 billion KRW in basic funds and 9 billion KRW in metropolitan funds for the next year.
Gokseong-gun was selected as one of the top 20% among 89 local governments nationwide experiencing population decline, receiving 11.2 billion KRW in basic funds. Gokseong-gun plans to enhance existing fund projects such as the creation of family-type work villages using this fund.
Additionally, new projects will be promoted to create jobs for young people and improve housing environments, such as the Smart Young Farmer Campus project, and policies for population recovery specific to Gokseong will be developed.
By adding 6 billion KRW from the basic fund and 5 billion KRW from the county’s own resources to the 9 billion KRW metropolitan fund, a total of 100 public rental housing units for young people will be constructed.
This aims to prevent young people from moving to other regions due to housing problems and to help them settle within the local area.
Governor Lee Sang-cheol of Gokseong-gun said, “We will actively respond to local extinction through prompt and flawless project implementation. Through the Local Extinction Response Fund projects, which will be invested over 10 years to improve a healthy population structure, we will create a younger Gokseong and a happier community for our residents.”
The Local Extinction Response Fund has been distributed since 2022 by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, which evaluates and allocates funds differentially to regions at risk of population decline and local extinction. Gokseong-gun secured 18 billion KRW from 2022 to 2023, and in 2024, it secured an additional 20.2 billion KRW, exceeding the previous amount.
