Blinken to Visit Korea on the 8th
Discussing North Korea-Russia Cooperation and International Situation Response
Tony Blinken, the U.S. Secretary of State currently visiting South Korea, strongly condemned North Korea's military support to Russia and provocative actions on the Korean Peninsula.
On the 9th, the U.S. Department of State announced that on the first day of his visit to South Korea, Blinken met with Cho Tae-yong, the Director of the National Security Office, to discuss issues related to North Korea and expressed this stance.
The U.S. Department of State also reported that both sides shared views on the importance of U.S.-South Korea cooperation to resolve geopolitical crises surrounding the international community, including the Middle East conflict. The U.S. Department of State stated, "Secretary Blinken reaffirmed the United States' firm commitment to South Korea's defense."
Secretary Blinken, who is visiting South Korea for a one-night, two-day schedule, is expected to hold talks with Foreign Minister Park Jin on the 9th, followed by a joint press conference. Ahead of the upcoming U.S.-China summit to be held in conjunction with the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, he is likely to coordinate views with South Korea during this visit. Additionally, trilateral discussions among South Korea, the U.S., and Japan on international situations such as the Ukraine war and the Israel-Palestine conflict are also expected. It is reported that Secretary Blinken plans to pay a courtesy call on President Yoon Suk-yeol on the same day.
