Hoban Group, including Hoban Construction, is actively engaged in various social contribution activities to create a better society. They consistently carry out diverse initiatives such as talent development, cultural and artistic advancement, and coexistence with local communities.
The Hoban Scholarship Foundation of Hoban Group provided scholarships to support the dreams of children and adolescents, the future generation. In July, they donated 30 million KRW to the Asan City Future Scholarship Foundation to nurture local talent, 30 million KRW to the Dangjin City Welfare Foundation in September, and 50 million KRW to the Gwangju Bitgoeul Scholarship Foundation in October. The donated scholarships are used to support students' learning activities and foster local talent.
Established in 1999 by Chairman Kim Sang-yeol (founder of Hoban Construction) with his personal funds, the Hoban Scholarship Foundation has been steadily conducting scholarship projects, talent development, and academic research support. Over 24 years, the foundation has provided a total of 15.4 billion KRW in scholarships to more than 8,700 recipients. Since 2022, it has been discovering innovative ideas from university students to solve social problems through contests and supporting future innovative talents.
Hoban Group, including Hoban Construction, is also making continuous efforts to contribute to the development of Korean culture and arts. In April, the Hoban Cultural Foundation held the ‘2023 Hoban Art Award’ ceremony. The Hoban Art Award was established to support mid-career and veteran domestic artists who have continued their painting careers for over 30 years by providing prize money, retrospectives, matching with domestic and international critics, and publishing opportunities. Additionally, last month, the foundation held the ‘2023 H-EAA’ National Young Artists Art Competition award ceremony to discover emerging young artists and support them with prize money and exhibitions.
Woo Hyun-hee, director of the Hoban Cultural Foundation, said, “We ask for warm encouragement and support for young artists who have built their own unique artistic worlds based on serious reflections on life,” adding, “The Hoban Cultural Foundation will strive to help the domestic cultural and artistic community develop through continuous support.”

One of Hoban Group’s representative social contribution activities, ‘Hoban Sarang Nanum-i,’ is a volunteer group composed of employees from Hoban Construction, Hoban Hotel & Resort, and other Hoban Group affiliates, continuing volunteer work since 2009.
On the 4th, Hoban Sarang Nanum-i visited Hyemyeong Orphanage located in Geumcheon-gu, Seoul, to carry out a ‘Love Kimchi Sharing’ volunteer activity. Hoban Sarang Nanum-i and Hyemyeong Orphanage have maintained a relationship since 2010, conducting the Love Kimchi Sharing annually. On this day, Hoban Sarang Nanum-i carefully made 1,400 kg of kimchi by moving salted napa cabbage and mixing the seasoning. The kimchi ingredients were supplied by Daea Cheonggwa, an affiliate of Hoban Group. In addition, they delivered 20 million KRW in donations raised by Hoban Group employees.
Last month, Hoban Group, together with the Seungil Hope Foundation, successfully held ‘Beach Plogging’ and ‘Ice Bucket Challenge’ events at Kkotji Beach on Anmyeondo Island, Chungnam, and Island Resort, Resom. The event was organized by the Seungil Hope Foundation and sponsored by Hoban Construction and Hoban Hotel & Resort. More than 1,000 participants, including Hoban Sarang Nanum-i members, jogged along their chosen courses of 3 km, 5 km, or 7 km while picking up trash, then gathered at the lawn plaza of Island Resort, Resom, to participate in the Ice Bucket Challenge. They also donated 30 million KRW to the Seungil Hope Foundation for the construction of a Lou Gehrig’s disease care center.
Kim Jae-eun, deputy head of the Open Innovation Team at Hoban Construction, who participated in the volunteer activity with her children, said, “I spent a meaningful time walking along the beautiful beach with my children while protecting the environment,” adding, “Through the Ice Bucket Challenge, I was able to empathize with the pain of patients suffering from Lou Gehrig’s disease.”
In addition, Hoban Group, including Hoban Construction, continues its social contribution activities to fulfill its social responsibilities, such as supporting win-win cooperation with partner companies and local community development projects.
