Meeting to Review Agricultural and Food Supply Conditions
The government has decided to designate dedicated managers for processed foods with high price sensitivity, such as bread secretaries and ramen officers, to focus on their management.
On the 9th, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs held a 'Agricultural and Food Supply Situation Inspection Meeting' at the Government Complex Sejong, chaired by Vice Minister Han Hoon, the ministry's price stabilization officer.
This meeting was a follow-up measure to the announcement made at the 'Emergency Economic Ministers' Meeting and Price-Related Ministers' Meeting' held on the 2nd, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Choo Kyung-ho, where vice ministers of each ministry were appointed as price stabilization officers responsible for stabilizing prices in their respective sectors and operating a field-centered price response system. The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs decided to elevate the 'Agricultural and Food Supply Situation Room,' which has been established and operated since June last year, directly under the vice minister to manage agricultural and food prices more strictly.
The ministry plans to designate dedicated managers for 28 major agricultural and food items for focused management. In particular, while item-specific managers have been designated and managed mainly for fresh agricultural and livestock products, going forward, processed foods with high price sensitivity such as bread, milk, snacks, coffee, ramen, ice cream, sugar, cooking oil, and wheat flour?nine items in total?will have designated managers (at the officer level) for close management. Item-specific managers will operate a close communication system with consumer groups and the industry to respond promptly to price situations.
Vice Minister Han said, "We plan to designate dedicated managers for 28 agricultural and food items with high price sensitivity to manage agricultural and food prices more strictly," adding, "We will do our best to alleviate the burden of grocery prices for the public."
