Incheon’s First Youth Specialized Facility to Be Established at Old Dorim High School... Passed Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s Central Investment Deliberation Committee

Investing 24.3 Billion Won, Construction Starts in 2025, Completion Targeted for 2026

A youth-specialized facility will be established in the old Dorim High School building in Incheon. On the 9th, Incheon City announced that the youth-specialized facility planned to be created in the old Dorim High School in Dorim-dong, Namdong-gu, has passed the Central Investment Review by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.

The Central Investment Review is an administrative procedure that pre-verifies the feasibility of major investment projects by local governments to prevent indiscriminate investments and manage finances productively. With the youth-specialized facility project passing the Central Investment Review, the project will gain momentum.

The city plans to invest 24.3 billion KRW by 2026 to equip the old Dorim High School main and annex buildings with youth facilities such as workshops, virtual reality (VR) rooms, augmented reality (AR) rooms, metaverse rooms, and filming studios, as well as community open facilities including a small library, performance hall, dance practice room, and indoor gymnasium.

The city will reflect the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s conditional opinions, such as discovering various programs to support youth activities and expanding opening hours, and will proceed with design competitions and service contracts next year, with remodeling construction scheduled to begin in 2025.

Currently, there are 14 youth-specialized facilities nationwide: 8 in Seoul, 2 in Daegu, and 1 each in Gyeonggi, Gangwon, Jeonbuk, and Gwangju, but none in Incheon. An official from Incheon City stated, "We will do our best to ensure that the first youth-specialized facility established in Incheon provides healthy leisure activities and high-quality career experience opportunities."
