Contributing to Reducing Educational Gaps and Improving Learning Abilities for Low-Income Families
Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it is recruiting 85 youths to participate in the '2024 Youth Hope Design Dream Coaching' program until November 16.
The 'Youth Hope Design Dream Coaching' program provides free academy tuition and textbook fees to students who have a strong desire to learn and motivation for studying but find it difficult to attend academies due to their family circumstances.
In January 2017, the district signed a tripartite agreement for the 'Youth Hope Design Dream Coaching Project' with the 'Yeongdeungpo Dream Coaching Academy Volunteer Group' and the 'Seoul Social Welfare Community Chest.' Since then, it has provided learning opportunities to about 70 youths annually.
The 'Yeongdeungpo Dream Coaching Academy Volunteer Group,' which includes 19 academies, offers students the chance to attend academies, while the district and the Social Welfare Community Chest support textbook fees using funds raised for a warm winter.
This year, 46 students received free tuition benefits, and next year, 85 students will be provided with free academy classes and textbook fees for one year.
The program period is from December 2023 to December 2024. Eligible applicants are low-income elementary, middle, and high school students from families with a combined property value of 135 million KRW or less and whose health insurance premium is at or below 65% of the median income.
Those wishing to participate in the Dream Coaching project can apply by visiting their local community service center from November 6 to 16. Required documents for application include the Dream Coaching Scholarship Student Application Form, a copy of the school record, and proof of income and property.
The district will conduct document and interview screenings and finalize the selection of students to participate by November 30, notifying them individually.
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, said, "The Dream Coaching project was established to help reduce educational disparities among low-income students and improve their learning abilities. We hope that low-income youths will not give up on their dreams but instead develop their talents and potential to grow into future leaders."
