Discussion on Joint Response to Abnormal Climate and Preserving the Reputation of Gyeongbuk Apples
The ‘2023 Gyeongbuk Apple Promotion Event,’ jointly hosted by Gyeongbuk Province and the Council of Mayors and County Heads of Apple-Producing Regions, and organized by the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Fruit Agricultural Cooperative, was held at Seoul Plaza from the 6th to the 8th.
This event was prepared to promote the excellence of Gyeongbuk apples and provide consumers with the opportunity to purchase apples at affordable prices. It was held at Seoul Plaza for the first time in four years since 2019 due to reasons such as COVID-19.
At this festival, a variety of experience programs were offered, including the ‘Gyeongbuk Apple Premium Hall’ showcasing various apple varieties, ‘Premium Apple Balloon Art,’ and ‘Gyeongbuk Apple Pro Gamer.’ Additionally, an event promoting specialties from 14 cities and counties in the Gyeongbuk apple-producing region was held, receiving great response from citizens visiting Seoul Plaza.
Kim Gwang-yeol, Mayor of Yeongdeok County and currently serving as the chairman of the Council of Mayors and County Heads of Apple-Producing Regions, said, “Gyeongbuk apples, which account for 60% of the national apple production, are engraving the status of K-Apple beyond Korea and into the world.” He added, “We will enhance the value and competitiveness of apples, the fruit most loved by Koreans and one of the world’s top five produced fruits, contributing to Korea’s future growth and regional revitalization.”
Before the Gyeongbuk Apple Promotion Event, the Council of Mayors and County Heads of Apple-Producing Regions held a regular meeting to discuss various opinions on jointly responding to the increasingly threatening abnormal climate and maintaining the reputation of high-quality Gyeongbuk apples.
The Council of Mayors and County Heads of Apple-Producing Regions consists of 14 cities and counties: Pohang, Gyeongju, Gimcheon, Andong, Yeongju, Yeongcheon, Sangju, Mungyeong, Uiseong, Cheongsong, Yeongyang, Yeongdeok, Yecheon, and Bonghwa. They continue exchanges and cooperation among local governments to develop the fruit industry and increase the income of apple farmers.
