Democratic Party Establishes Talent Committee... Lee Jae-myung Appointed Chair
"Considering Both Internal and External Members Rather Than Just New Faces"
Party Leader Directly Involved?..."It Was the Same During Lee Hae-chan's Time"
The Democratic Party of Korea has launched a general election planning team and established a talent committee, marking the beginning of full-scale preparations for the general election. Party leader Lee Jae-myung plans to personally take charge as the head of the talent committee to lead the 'talent discovery' efforts.
Park Sung-joon, the Democratic Party spokesperson, announced to reporters after the Supreme Council meeting on the morning of the 8th that this agenda was deliberated and approved. Park explained, "Party leader Lee Jae-myung will serve as the head of the talent committee, responsible for establishing and executing human resource policies including talent discovery, recruitment, training, and development."
There is speculation that the Democratic Party will focus more on selecting internal personnel rather than external recruitment in this talent committee. Park added, "In the past, the talent committee mainly focused on recruiting new external figures, but this time, we plan to select both internal talents and external individuals with political experience who have participated in party affairs." He also noted, "The name was changed from Talent Recruitment Committee to Talent Committee."
Regarding the 'specific talent selection process,' Park responded, "Talents will be selected through the party's system, and the party leader will take responsibility for the decisions." He added, "It will not be the leader alone; recommendations will come from various systems such as the Secretary-General, Deputy Secretary-General, Deputy Head of Organization, the Democratic Research Institute, and the Policy Committee. We will strive to create a new breeze with a practical talent pool."
This structure appears to indicate that the party leadership will lead talent discovery, with the party leader taking responsibility. Park also explained the reason why the party leader personally heads the talent committee rather than an external figure: "According to Article 62, Paragraph 2 of the party regulations, the party leader appoints the committee head after deliberation by the Supreme Council. In 2020, then-leader Lee Hae-chan also recruited talents through this system."
When asked about the 'criteria for talent recruitment' during a meeting with reporters, party leader Lee Jae-myung replied, "Given the very difficult economic and livelihood situation, and that economic and livelihood recovery is a core task, I think we should prioritize discovering talents who can contribute to future science and technology and economic recovery." When asked if there was a reason for focusing on internal personnel, he clarified, "It is not that we are focusing solely on internal personnel."
