The DIT Social Service Group of Dong-Eui Institute of Technology conducted rural volunteer activities for two days from the 3rd to the 4th in Seonri Village, Wondong-myeon, Yangsan-si, Gyeongnam.
Dong-Eui Institute of Technology, which established a sisterhood relationship with Seonri Village in Yangsan, Gyeongnam in 2008 under the One School One Village program, promotes various volunteer activities such as helping hands and environmental cleanup every year to support farms experiencing labor shortages during the harvest season and specific periods.
The DIT Social Service Group, consisting of about 70 students and faculty members, helped with the shortage of labor in tasks such as apple harvesting and packaging at the village's communal farmland.
On this day, students from Dong-Eui Institute of Technology's baseball and judo clubs also participated to provide a valuable volunteer experience.
President Kim Young-do of Dong-Eui Science University and students from the DIT Social Service Group are taking a commemorative photo while conducting volunteer work in rural areas.
Student Park Jin-young, who participated in the volunteer work, said, "Through this volunteer activity, I realized that there is a truly arduous and difficult process until a single piece of fruit reaches our hands," adding, "It was a rewarding time to be able to help rural residents who are facing many difficulties due to recent abnormal climate damage and labor shortages in farming."
Kim Young-do, president of Dong-Eui Institute of Technology, said, "I understand that the labor shortage situation in rural areas is serious," and added, "I hope this volunteer activity was of some help to the farms."
The DIT Social Service Group of Dong-Eui Institute of Technology conducts rural volunteer activities every June and November.
