Application of AGV for Cleanrooms, Supplied to Leading Taiwanese Semiconductor Companies
24-Hour Equipment Operation...Electricity Cost Reduction, Contribution to RE100 Achievement
Used in AGVs by US Amazon and Walmart...Expansion of Robotics Market
LS Cable & System's subsidiary LS Materials announced on the 8th that it will supply ultracapacitors (UC) to a Japanese automated guided vehicle (AGV) manufacturer. UC is known as the next-generation secondary battery. It is an industrial special battery with advantages such as high-speed charging and discharging and long lifespan. In advanced industries such as AGVs, wind turbines, energy storage systems (ESS), and electric vehicles, lithium-ion batteries are rapidly being replaced by UCs.
The Japanese company applies the UC to AGVs used for transporting cleanroom components and supplies them to a Taiwanese semiconductor factory. By utilizing the UC's rapid charging function, AGVs can be charged in real time while operating. This allows equipment to run 24 hours without separate charging time. Regenerative power is also possible, reducing electricity consumption.
The company explained, "A leading Taiwanese semiconductor company decided to introduce a UC-utilized AGV system to reduce electricity costs and achieve RE100 while constructing a new factory." RE100 is an international campaign to cover 100% of electricity consumption with renewable energy. Hong Young-ho, CEO of LS Materials, said, "Our technology has already been verified by use in AGVs at logistics centers such as Amazon and Walmart in the United States," adding, "We plan to expand marketing as we expect the robotics market centered on AGVs to grow rapidly due to aging and a decrease in the labor population."
LS Materials is the world's number one company in the large UC sector. It submitted a securities registration statement last month and is pursuing a KOSDAQ listing within the year.
