Expansion of Youth Public Rental Housing and Enactment of Group Meal Ordinance

The Changwon Residents' Assembly Organizing Committee held a press conference in front of Changwon Special City Hall on the 7th and announced the top 10 demands of Changwon residents.


The Changwon Residents' Assembly Organizing Committee is composed of over 60 organizations, including local residents of Changwon and the Progressive Party Changwon Regional Committee, and has been active since 2021 with the purpose of allowing residents to directly decide how to spend the remaining taxes for the year.

The committee explained, "We conducted a survey on how to use Changwon City's 125.8 billion KRW net surplus in 2022 and finalized 10 resident demands."


The net surplus refers to the remaining finances after deducting expenditures from the taxes collected by the local government over one year and returning the balance of government subsidies.


They stated, "From August 21 to October 18, we conducted a survey on the usage areas of the net surplus, receiving a total of 2,275 responses. From the 1st to the 3rd of this month, priorities were set through resident voting, and the top 10 demands were finalized."

According to the committee, the response for expanding public rental housing for youth was the highest at 18.4%.


The top 10 demands include ▲expansion of public rental housing for youth ▲enactment of the Changwon City Collective Meal Ordinance to ensure safety from Japan's nuclear contaminated water ▲changing the route of the second phase of the Northern Ring Road project according to residents' demands ▲creating pilot streets for residential parking to alleviate parking difficulties ▲extending the toll reduction hours on Machang Bridge and introducing card payment when purchasing discount coupons.


Also included are ▲installation of streetlights and CCTV in dark alleys ▲implementing a 100 KRW fare system for city buses for elementary, middle, and high school students and seniors aged 65 and over ▲reorganizing and expanding Changwon city bus routes ▲expanding local love gift certificates and local currency ▲implementing a discount coupon system to revitalize commercial areas in Changwon city public parking lots.


The committee conveyed the top 10 demands to Changwon City, expressing hope that the city will respond to the residents' urgent livelihood demands.
