Jangseong-gun Takes Thorough Measures to Prevent Wildfires... Firefighting Team Conducts Surveillance Activities

Jangseong-gun, Jeollanam-do is making every effort to prevent forest fires during the winter season.

The county announced on the 7th that it has begun full-scale forest fire monitoring activities this month by deploying forest fire helicopters and specialized forest fire prevention and suppression personnel.

Since more than half of forest fire causes stem from carelessness such as burning trash and cigarette butts, the county is taking proactive measures including focused crackdowns, publicity, and imposing fines.

Before the activities, safety education on forest fire prevention was conducted for about 70 suppression team members and forest fire officers from towns and townships.

A professional instructor from the Korea Forest Fire Prevention Technology Association was invited to provide training on the forest fire disaster site action manual, forest fire suppression safety rules, and practical training on the use of suppression equipment.

Suppression equipment has also been prepared to enable rapid initial response in case of forest fires.

The county operates 12 forest fire suppression vehicles and about 30 types of equipment including digital radios, and recently replaced four outdated forest fire monitoring cameras with digital cameras to enhance monitoring efficiency.

A county official said, “When the risk of forest fires is high due to dry weather, indiscriminate burning must be strictly prohibited,” and added, “We ask for active cooperation to prevent damage to the precious forest resources that will be passed on to future generations.”
