The Literature Translation Institute of Korea Donates 39 Korean Books to the 'House of Wisdom' Library in Sharjah, UAE

The Literature Translation Institute of Korea announced that it donated Korean books to the 'House of Wisdom' library in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates (UAE), following its participation in the 2023 Sharjah International Book Fair as the guest of honor country. A total of 39 titles, including an anthology of works by seven Korean authors as well as original and translated books, were donated.

The House of Wisdom was established on a 12,000㎡ (approximately 3,630 pyeong) site to commemorate Sharjah's designation as UNESCO World Book Capital in 2019. The donated books include Korean works by Kim Seung-hee, Jung Ho-seung, Kim Ae-ran, Kim Un-su, Bae Myung-hoon, Son Won-pyung, and Hwang Sun-mi, as well as translations in Arabic, Spanish, and English. An additional 43 translated titles are planned to be donated in the future.

Kwack Hyo-hwan, president of the Translation Institute, stated, “Following our participation as the guest of honor country at the UAE Sharjah International Book Fair, we plan to take part in various international book fairs and literary festivals held in the Arab region.” He added, “Through this donation, we hope to expand the readership among Arabic-speaking audiences and promote active cultural exchange between Korea and Arab countries.”
