Democratic Party Lawmaker, YTN Radio Interview
"Lee Jun-seok - Secret Contact? Party Philosophy and Values Must Be Judged"
Kim Young-jin, the Chief of Political Coordination and a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, predicted on the 7th that former People Power Party leader Lee Jun-seok has about a "90% chance" of founding a new party, stating, "It will be difficult for Lee to retreat. If he does, he might have to quit politics altogether."
On the same day, Kim appeared on YTN Radio's 'News King Park Ji-hoon' and said, "Lee is completely different from the trends within the People Power Party, so it has become difficult for him to stay."
He added, "He seems to be reaching out both inside and outside the People Power Party for his political path," and said, "Since Lee is meeting various figures as a means to establish his new party, we should just observe the procedures and processes."
Regarding contacts between Lee and the non-Lee Jae-myung faction within the Democratic Party, Kim said, "They can meet in various ways," but emphasized the need to consider the philosophy and values of both the Democratic Party and Lee's new party. Kim stated, "It is necessary to judge how the philosophy and values pursued by the Democratic Party?such as livelihood, democracy, peace, and representing the middle and working classes?compare to the values pursued by Lee's party."
Earlier, Lee hinted at the possibility of founding a new party and revealed that he has been in contact with the non-Lee Jae-myung faction within the Democratic Party. It was reported by the media that this contact was with Democratic Party lawmaker Lee Sang-min. On the 7th, Lee appeared on CBS Radio and said, "All possibilities are open," but added, "We need to quickly decide whether to have a fierce internal struggle or a pleasant separation. I plan to decide my course within a month."
