A dedicated parking lot will be established at Moran Folk 5-Day Market, a representative 5-day market in Seongnam, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea.
Seongnam City announced that it has completed preliminary administrative procedures such as urban management plan decisions and detailed design services for the construction of a flat parking lot at Moran Folk 5-Day Market and began construction on the 7th.
This parking lot project is being promoted to resolve the parking issues at Moran Folk 5-Day Market, which have been inconvenient for residents, and to help revitalize the local commercial district.
Seongnam City will partially lift the buffer green space near Moran Market (excluding a minimum width of 10m) through changes to the urban management plan, and utilize the remaining 3,038㎡ to create 100 flat parking spaces by the end of this year.
Originally, Seongnam City planned to build a dedicated parking structure to solve the parking shortage, but due to the excessive project cost of 22.6 billion KRW and an expected construction period of at least three years, they devised a plan to shorten the construction period.
Accordingly, Seongnam City changed the plan to construct a flat parking lot, which reduces project costs, shortens the construction period, and does not require additional expenses such as setting up a temporary market during the project period, allowing for quicker parking space availability compared to building a dedicated parking structure. The budget of 800 million KRW will be efficiently managed for this purpose.
Shin Sang-jin, Mayor of Seongnam City, stated, "Until now, Moran Folk 5-Day Market, the representative market of Seongnam City, did not have a dedicated parking lot, causing inconvenience to visitors from all over the country who come to Moran Market." He added, "Once this parking lot is completed, it will ensure convenience and safety for citizens, and visitors will be able to safely and conveniently visit the market, befitting the reputation of the largest folk 5-day market in the nation."
