Gwangjin-gu Hosts '2023 Senior Economic Class'

Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) held the ‘2023 Senior Gwangjin Economic Class’ to prevent financial fraud targeting the elderly.

Last summer, the district operated ‘Financial and Economic Education’ for the younger generation, which received great responses. This time, an economic lecture was held to help seniors, who are vulnerable to financial fraud, achieve a stable retirement life.

The lecture took place on the 6th at the Gwangjin-gu Office auditorium. About 350 seniors attended to learn about various types of financial fraud and how to respond to them. Economic education expert Jeong Min-young was invited as the instructor, providing useful and substantial information based on years of practical experience.

First, attendees learned about increasingly diverse fraud methods such as new types of phone financial fraud (voice phishing), fraudulent sales, and investment scams, along with prevention measures. In particular, detailed guidance was given on messenger phishing (fraud crimes using mobile messengers), which has seen a recent surge in cases, attracting significant attention.

Additionally, information on senior support programs was provided to assist in stable asset management. Practical benefits such as basic pension, senior transportation cards, health management programs, and senior job projects were introduced, drawing focused interest.

Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “We prepared economic education to empower seniors to counter increasingly sophisticated fraud crimes,” adding, “We will continue to provide various educational opportunities so that seniors can manage their assets stably without falling victim to fraud.”
