Gyeonggi Province strengthens cooperation with Poland.
On the 7th, Gyeonggi Province announced that Governor Kim Dong-yeon signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for friendly cooperation with Piotr Ostaszewski, the Ambassador of Poland to Korea, and Andrzej Jaroch, Chairman of the Dolno?l?skie Regional Assembly, at Lotte Hotel Seoul in Sogong-dong, Seoul on the 6th.
This is the first exchange between Gyeonggi Province and Poland. According to the agreement, exchanges and cooperation will expand in various fields such as economy, climate change, education, culture, and tourism, and it is expected to greatly contribute to revitalizing exchanges with Eastern European countries.
Governor Kim Dong-yeon said at the event, "The direct flight route between Wrocław and Incheon opened a few days ago, and Gyeonggi Province and Dolno?l?skie Province are now opening a new door. Just as the direct flight route is the fastest way for people and goods to move back and forth, this MOU directly connects the cooperative relationship between Gyeonggi Province and Dolno?l?skie Province," adding, "Gyeonggi Province is a hub of Korea’s advanced industries such as automobiles and information technology. We want to open a wide field of cooperation not only in economic and industrial sectors but also in culture, tourism, sports, and human exchanges."
Andrzej Jaroch, Chairman of the Dolno?l?skie Regional Assembly, expressed his thoughts, saying, "This MOU is the first step to strengthen cooperation between the two countries. Both countries and regions are similar in that they live close to strong neighbors. The two regions have great potential not only for economic cooperation but also in culture and tourism. I am pleased to sign this agreement."
According to the agreement, the two regions will cooperate in various fields including ▲economic cooperation, trade exchange, and mutual development of the labor market ▲environmental protection and healthy food production in the era of climate change ▲vocational education and higher education ▲cooperation between cultural institutions ▲regional tourism and mutual promotion.
Governor Kim also attended the second part of the Independence Day event hosted by the Polish Embassy on the same day. Poland’s Independence Day is November 11, 1918, the day when Poland, which had been partitioned by Austria, Germany, and Russia, regained its status as a nation.
Gyeonggi Province has been promoting the signing of the friendly cooperation MOU since January this year, when Czesław Przybylski, the Governor of Dolno?l?skie Province, proposed exchange cooperation.
Since establishing diplomatic relations in 1989, South Korea and Poland have maintained close cooperation in various fields including politics, economy, and culture. Poland, a gateway for Korean companies such as LG Energy Solution and LG Electronics to enter Europe and a logistics hub, is an important partner for South Korea in Central and Eastern Europe.
Gyeonggi Province expects active exchanges and a developing partnership in economic cooperation, trade exchange, climate change response, education, culture, and tourism, triggered by the signing of the friendly cooperation MOU with Dolno?l?skie Province and the opening of the direct flight route between the capital Wrocław and Incheon on the 3rd.
