Only Central Investment Review Approval Remaining in January Next Year

Osan Middle and High School Establishment Passes Provincial Office of Education's Independent Investment Review

According to the city, the plan to establish Yangsan 1 Middle School (tentative name) recently passed the 4th self-investment review by the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education. The self-investment review is a type of feasibility assessment conducted by the provincial office of education for projects with a total budget exceeding 3 billion KRW. The city explained that with this self-investment review passed, only the central investment review by the Ministry of Education, scheduled for January next year, remains for the establishment of Yangsan 1 Middle School. The city plans to begin design work in February next year after passing the central investment review and aims to open the school in March 2027.

Osan Mayor Lee Gwon-jae emphasized, “In the case of Yangsan-dong, there was difficulty as local students had to commute to nearby Hwaseong City due to the absence of a middle school, and there had been continuous demands for school establishment, so the significance of passing this self-investment review is great.”

The city also announced that it is promoting a plan to utilize the vacant land of Osan Elementary School, which will be vacated due to the new establishment, as a site for a high school.

The city also stated that it is pushing to use the vacant land of Osan Elementary School, which will be relocated due to the new establishment, as a site for a high school. This is to solve the problem of overcrowded classes in high schools within the Segyo 2 District.

Earlier, Mayor Lee proposed the need for additional new schools during a meeting with the Gyeonggi Provincial Superintendent of Education in August, noting that there is only one general high school in the Segyo 2 District.

Accordingly, the provincial office of education decided to utilize the site as Segyo 2-3 High School (tentative name) after a re-examination of the self-investment review this month. Segyo 2-3 High School also only has the central investment review by the Ministry of Education scheduled for January next year remaining.

Mayor Lee said, "The establishment of schools is the first step to alleviate overcrowded classes," adding, "We will take the lead in realizing educational welfare for students' safe and comfortable school life."
