Yeongyang-gun Successfully Concludes the 12th Oil-do National Writing Contest

Yeongyang-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, successfully held the "12th Oildo National Writing Contest" at 10 a.m. on November 4th at the Yeongyang County Citizens' Hall, organized by the Yeongyang Literary Association (President Hwang Tae-jin).

This writing contest was conducted with the themes "Cat, Glass, Shadow" for about 100 participants across elementary, middle, high school, and university/general divisions.


A special lecture titled "A New Understanding and Meaning of Poetry" was given by Professor Oh Hyeong-yeop from the Department of Korean Literature at Korea University. In the afternoon, various programs blending poetry, music, and humanities were held, including a youth culture festival featuring poetry recitations and talent shows by young people, woodworking experiences, and busking performances.


County Governor Oh Do-chang said, "Through the 12th Oildo National Writing Contest, we honor the literary spirit of poet Oildo and believe that the poetry created by the participants will beautifully color the autumn scenery of Yeongyang. We also expect to further elevate the image of Yeongyang, a town of literary fragrance that produced pioneering modern poet Oildo and the Cheongnokpa poet Jo Ji-hoon."


Poet Oildo, who was born in Gamcheon-ri, Yeongyang-eup, Yeongyang-gun, founded the poetry magazine Siwon (詩苑), which blossomed the art supremacy in the literary world.


His works are mostly based on romantic lyricism and melancholy, characterized by a focus on free emotional expression. His major works include "Snow, Please Come Down Quickly" and "Lament by the Roadside."
