"How Do You Live?" is an animated film Miyazaki directed after a 10-year hiatus since "The Wind Rises" (2013). It depicts a time-and-space-transcending fantasy experienced by a boy named Mahito who accidentally steps into a mysterious world beyond time and space. The film has faced criticism for allegedly glorifying the harms of Japanese imperialism and for an unsettling plot element involving remarriage to the wife’s younger sister. Despite sharply divided opinions, it appears to be steadily attracting a dedicated fanbase.
"Boyz," starring actor Seol Kyung-gu and directed by Jung Ji-young, which dramatizes the Samrye Nara Super incident, drew 161,085 viewers, ranking second on its opening weekend. Released on the 1st, it has attracted a cumulative audience of 247,028.
The romantic comedy "30 Days," starring actors Kang Ha-neul and Jeon So-min and directed by Nam Dae-jung, gathered 92,101 viewers, placing third. Since its release on the 3rd of last month, it has recorded a total audience of 1,996,995.
The horror film "Talk to Me," released on the 1st, attracted 61,977 viewers, ranking fourth, while the action film "A Model Citizen," starring Shin Hye-sun and directed by Park Jin-pyo, drew 31,026 viewers, placing fifth.
The sixth to tenth places were occupied by "Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour," "Flower Killing Moon," "Blue Giant," and "My Shiny World," respectively.
The total number of moviegoers over the weekend was recorded at 824,725.
Meanwhile, the Marvel film "The Marvels," starring actor Park Seo-joon, recorded a real-time reservation rate of 39.1% as of 9 a.m. on the 6th. The box office rankings are expected to change when the film is released on the 8th.
