Geumcheon-gu Holds Policy Seminar for Suicide Prevention and Life Respect Culture... Sharing Suicide Status and Discussing Public-Private Cooperation Strategies to Promote Community-Tailored Suicide Prevention Projects
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that it held the "2023 Geumcheon-gu Suicide Prevention Policy Seminar" on the 2nd at the Doksan-dong Cultural Garden Art Hall.
The policy seminar was organized to establish public-private practical strategies necessary for fostering a culture that respects life. At this event, Geumcheon-gu shared the current status of suicide and prevention policies, and together with experts, decided on the direction and specific implementation plans for future suicide prevention projects.
About 60 people, including the mayor of Geumcheon-gu, public officials, and workers from social welfare organizations, attended. The discussions proceeded in the following order: ▲ National Suicide Prevention Policy (Lee Gu-sang, Director of Korea Life Respect Hope Foundation) ▲ Suicide Status and Measures in Geumcheon-gu (Dr. Park Geon-woo, Biomedical Research Institute, Seoul National University Hospital) ▲ Suicide from the Perspective of a Psychiatrist (Professor Han Chang-soo, Department of Psychiatry, Korea University Guro Hospital) ▲ Mental Health Services Needed in Social Welfare Organizations (Koo Ja-hoon, President of Geumcheon Social Welfare Organizations Association) ▲ Community Response Measures for Mental Health Promotion (Lee In-sik, Chairperson of Welfare and Construction Committee, Geumcheon-gu Council) ▲ Q&A and open discussion.
The experts stated, "The suicide rate in Geumcheon-gu is somewhat higher than the national average, and as age increases, the suicide rate among males is higher than that of females. Reflecting these characteristics, it is necessary to promote suicide prevention projects by gender and age group in cooperation with related community institutions."
Mayor Yu Seong-hoon of Geumcheon-gu said, "Suicide cannot be viewed solely as an individual's problem; it requires social attention and careful approach," adding, "We will continue to promote customized suicide prevention projects based on the suggestions of experts and participants."
