4 Great Autumn Walking Spots in Songpa: Where to Go?

‘Pungnap-dong Dalbit Sanchaekro’ Completed: A Tranquil Walkway with Hanseong Baekje History... Selected as One of Seoul’s 99 Maple Paths Including Wirye Seonggil, Seokchon Lake, and Seongnaecheon Trails

4 Great Autumn Walking Spots in Songpa: Where to Go? Wiryesong-gil

Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) introduced four autumn spots where you can enjoy the autumn atmosphere in the city without going far.

The ‘Dalbit Sanchaek-ro’ in Pungnap-dong is a walking path where you can encounter the history of Hanseong Baekje from 2,000 years ago.

This recently completed path stretches 2 km along the Pungnap Fortress in three sections, containing various stories of Baekje. Using Baekje’s symbolic colors?yellow, blue, and green?as themes, landscape lighting, roof tile pattern blocks, and convenience facilities have been installed, making it a pleasant path to walk anytime, day or night. Some sections have newly laid soft soil, perfect for barefoot walking.

Walking along the trail leads to a route that incorporates explanations about the achievements and governance system of Baekje kings, maritime exchanges, and Baekje relics and sites such as Pungnap Fortress, Mongchontoseong, and Seokchon-dong Ancient Tombs.

It offers a unique walking experience in a serene atmosphere where cultural heritage and modernity coexist.

Three autumn foliage paths selected by Seoul City as part of the ‘99 Seoul Autumn Foliage Trails’ are also perfect for autumn outings: ▲ Wiryesong-gil ▲ Songpa Naru Park ▲ Seongnaecheon Walking Trail.

‘Wiryesong-gil’ is a representative autumn foliage spot in Songpa-gu.

It is about a 1.3 km section from Olympic Park Intersection to Peace Gate Plaza. Ginkgo trees are densely lined up on both sides of the sidewalk. Every autumn, the large ginkgo trees create a yellow wave that looks like a carpet spread out, showcasing a spectacular view.

‘Songpa Naru Park,’ better known for Seokchon Lake, offers a rare opportunity in Seoul to walk along a path covered with fallen leaves against the backdrop of the lake.

Along the 2.6 km walking trail, there are about 1,120 trees including zelkova and cherry trees, allowing visitors to see colorful autumn foliage. From the cherry blossom spectacle in spring to lush greenery in midsummer, autumn foliage, and snowy scenery over the lake in cold winter, the park offers nature’s gifts throughout the year.

Along the lakeside, the light festival ‘Autumn and Winter of the Lake and Luminaria’ will be held until February 29 of next year.

‘Seongnaecheon Walking Trail’ is a path with diverse visual pleasures.

The section selected as an autumn foliage path is 1 km long, from the back road of Jamhyeon Elementary School to in front of Seoul Olympic Parktel. Although short, the tunnel of autumn leaves created by cherry trees, along with silver grass and reeds, blends well to evoke a deep autumn atmosphere. Walking along the stream past this section, you can also find mental relaxation through healthy natural ecology such as mallards, egrets, and carp.

Mayor Seo Gang-seok said, “Peak autumn foliage awaits visitors throughout Songpa-gu,” and added, “We hope you enjoy the autumn atmosphere in Songpa-gu without needing to travel far and create joyful memories along with the various prepared cultural and artistic events.”
