President Yoon's Approval Rating Rises 1 Percentage Point to 34%

President Yoon Suk-yeol's approval rating for his administration slightly increased, recovering to the mid-30% range. The People Power Party's support rate slightly declined while the Democratic Party's support rate slightly rose, with the People Power Party leading by 1 percentage point (within the margin of error). In the favorability survey of political parties, both the People Power Party and the Democratic Party saw an increase in favorability and a decrease in unfavorability.
According to a public opinion poll released by Gallup on the 3rd (conducted via telephone interviews with 1,000 adults aged 18 and over nationwide from the 31st of last month to the 2nd), the positive evaluation rate of President Yoon's performance in office rose by 1 percentage point from the previous week to 34%. The negative evaluation rate remained the same at 58%.
Looking at political orientations, 56% of conservatives, 27% of moderates, and 10% of progressives gave a positive evaluation of President Yoon's administration.
Among respondents who gave a positive evaluation (341 people, open-ended responses), the reasons cited were ‘diplomacy’ (33%), ‘decisiveness/drive/tenacity’ (5%), and ‘overall good performance’ (5%). Among those who gave a negative evaluation (579 people, open-ended responses), the reasons included ‘economy/livelihood/prices’ (20%), ‘lack of communication’ (8%), ‘diplomacy’ (7%), ‘overall poor performance’ (6%), ‘authoritarian/unilateral decision-making’, and ‘lack of unity and cooperation’ (both 5%).
In party support ratings, the People Power Party's support rate fell by 1 percentage point to 34%, while the Democratic Party's support rate rose by 1 percentage point to 33%. The non-affiliated group accounted for 27%, and the Justice Party 5%. Among moderates, the People Power Party had 25%, the Democratic Party 33%, and 35% of voters did not support any particular party.
In the favorability survey of ruling and opposition parties conducted for the first time in three months since August, the People Power Party recorded 34% favorability (57% unfavorability), the Democratic Party 34% favorability (55% unfavorability), and the Justice Party 20% favorability (64% unfavorability). Notably, the favorability of both the People Power Party and the Democratic Party increased by 4 percentage points compared to the previous survey (conducted August 1-3). Unfavorability decreased by 4 percentage points for the People Power Party and 6 percentage points for the Democratic Party.
Regarding favorability, for the People Power Party, it was in the 20% range among those under 50, but rose to 48% among those in their 60s and 62% among those aged 70 and above. For the Democratic Party, favorability was around 40% among those in their 30s to 50s, and about 30% among those in their 20s and 60s.
