What Is the Secret Behind Geumcheon-gu Children Making 'Mild Paprika Gochujang'?

Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that the dietary education program "Geumcheon Children's Jangdokdae Experience Center," designed for preschool children aged 6 to 7, was successfully completed.

The "Geumcheon Children's Jangdokdae Experience Center" is an educational program independently developed to help children recognize the value of our food culture and traditional foods through hands-on food culture experiences and to foster proper eating habits.

From May to the end of October, the program was conducted for 394 children from 25 daycare centers, including activities such as ▲ making mild vegetable gochujang ▲ learning about the process of making traditional fermented foods ▲ observing Korean doenjang and soy sauce ▲ taking commemorative photos at the jangdokdae ▲ folding jangdokdae piggy banks.

Geumcheon-gu distributed a "sticker book" that easily explains the process of making jang through illustrations to the children who participated in the education.

In November, a contest for experience essays will be held for the participating daycare centers.

Since its inception last year, the Geumcheon Children's Jangdokdae Experience Center has involved a total of 66 daycare centers and 1,041 children through this year.

Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, stated, "I hope that children will develop healthy eating habits by making and tasting our traditional foods themselves and learn consideration for others through group education to grow into healthy children."
