Dobong-gu to Conduct Special Hygiene Inspections at Public Sanitation Businesses from November 1 to 30 to Prevent Bedbug Spread
Special Inspection Period Designated, Targeting 23 Lodging Facilities and 18 Bathhouses in the Area
Checking for Common Bedbug Presence and Monthly Disinfection Practices
Focused Inspection on Bedding Laundry for Lodging Facilities and Towel, Rental Clothes Laundry and Facility Cleaning for Bathhouses
As reports of bedbug sightings continue nationwide, Dobong-gu has taken measures to prevent the spread of bedbugs within the district.
Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) announced that from November 1 to 30, a special bedbug inspection period will be designated, during which hygiene management inspections will be conducted targeting public hygiene establishments.
The inspections will be carried out through on-site visits by inspection teams composed of two members each, targeting 23 lodging facilities and 18 bathhouses within the district.
The inspection items include ▲presence of bedbugs ▲whether disinfection is conducted at least once a month within the establishments.
In particular, lodging facilities will be closely inspected for whether bedding and towels used once are washed, compliance with standards for drinking water in rooms, and storage and provision of such water. Additionally, inspections of facilities and equipment standards such as window installation and loose wallpaper will be conducted to block possible bedbug entry routes.
For bathhouses, the focus will be on washing towels, gowns, and rental clothes, disinfecting hairdressing tools, daily cleaning of facilities inside the bathhouse at least once, and frequent cleaning of drainage and sewage tanks. Cleanliness management such as bathtub water quality, placement of thermometers in sweating rooms, and posting of cautionary notices will also be checked.
Along with inspections, the district plans to request cooperation from establishments and residents through campaigns including distribution of brochures containing bedbug prevention and response information. A district official stated, “To prevent damage from bedbugs, pest control activities in daily life are necessary. Since bedbugs mainly feed on people sleeping at night, disinfection should focus on places close to sleeping areas such as beds, sofas, bedding, and bookshelves.”
Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, said, “To alleviate citizens’ anxiety about bedbugs occurring domestically, we will continuously inspect public hygiene establishments and actively respond to bedbug prevention and management.”
